**Definition:** A procedure that blocks the left ATRIAL APPENDAGE to reduce the risk of MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION associated with ATRIAL FIBRILLATION (AF). The left atrial appendage is often the site of BLOOD CLOT formation in AF.
