Pyrodictiaceae

**Definition:** A family of archaea, in the order DESULFUROCOCCALES consisting of anaerobic coccoid to disc-shaped cells. They grow either chemolithoautotrophically or by FERMENTATION. Three genera are recognized: Pyrodictium, Hyperthermus, and Pyrolobus.
