Bilophila

**Definition:** A genus of gram-negative, anaerobic bacteria in the family DESULFOVIBRIONACEAE. It was originally recovered from infections in patients with gangrenous and PERFORATED APPENDICITIS. It is also associated with ABSCESS; BACTEREMIA; and BILIARY TRACT sepsis.
