TRPP Cation Channels

**Definition:** A subgroup of TRP cation channels that are widely expressed in various cell types. Defects are associated with POLYCYSTIC KIDNEY DISEASES. Polycystin-1 and Polycystin-2 form a heteromeric channel essential for regulation of CILIUM length and fluid-flow mechanosensation by the primary cilium in renal epithelium. Polycystin-2 can also function as a homotetramer and modulates calcium ion release from stimulated RYANODINE RECEPTORS in CARDIOMYOCYTES.
