Basigin

**Definition:** A widely distributed cell surface transmembrane glycoprotein characterized by extracellular IMMUNOGLOBULIN DOMAINS. It stimulates the synthesis of MATRIX METALLOPROTEINASES and is found at high levels on the surface of malignant NEOPLASMS where it may play a role as a mediator of malignant cell behavior.
