**Definition:** A coronavirus first reported in the summer of 2012 in a pneumonia patient in SAUDI ARABIA. It is related to SEVERE ACUTE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME-RELATED CORONAVIRUS. MERS-CoV has an estimated incubation period of 12 days and symptoms include renal failure and severe acute pneumonia with often fatal outcome.
