Diseases and Disorders of the Respiratory System

MDC04 groups inpatient cases that primarily involve diseases and disorders of the respiratory system, such as pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and respiratory failure. It is used in the Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups system for FY2024 to determine payment rates based on the severity of illness and the resources required.
