MDC06 groups inpatient cases whose principal diagnosis involves diseases or disorders of the digestive system, such as gastric, intestinal, liver, pancreatic, and biliary conditions. It is used in the Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups system to determine payment rates based on the severity and complexity of the digestive-related illness.
