Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Puerperium

MDC14 groups Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups that involve pregnancy, delivery, and the puerperium. It covers all inpatient stays for ante-partum care, labor and delivery, cesarean sections, vaginal births, and post-delivery complications, assigning DRGs based on severity and resource use. This MDC is used for FY2024 payment calculations under the Medicare inpatient prospective payment system.
