Type III Procollagen N-Terminal Peptide

**Definition:** Type III procollagen N-terminal peptide (P3NP) is encoded by the human COL3A1 gene. This peptide is produced by N-terminal cleavage of the N-terminal pro-peptide of type III collagen (Pro-C3). P3NP is a marker of collagen fibril synthesis, Pro-C3 and type III collagen turnover, muscle growth and repair, sarcopenia and fibrosis in hepatic tissue and muscle tissue.
