**Definition:** Human CR2 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 1q32 and is approximately 36 kb in length. This allele, which encodes complement receptor type 2 protein, is involved in the activation of both B-cells and complement-mediated immunity. Mutation of the gene is associated with systemic lupus erythematosus type 9.
