**Definition:** Human CD63 wild-type allele is located within 12q12-q13 and is approximately 4 kb in length. This allele, which encodes CD63 antigen protein, plays a role in signal transduction and may play a role in growth regulation. Mutation of this gene is associated with tumor progression and deficiency of the protein is associated with Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome.
