Baseline Dyspnea Index Clinical Classification

**Definition:** A standardized rating scale developed by Mahler et al in 1984, which is a general scale used to measure the rating of severity of dyspnea at a single state (as baseline). The questionnaire contains 3 categories of 24 items; functional impairment, magnitude of task and magnitude of effort. The instrument is scored on a five-grade scale for each category, where grade 0 represents very severe impairment and grade 4 represents no impairment.
