**Definition:** An unsaturated aldehyde with commercial applications, including the manufacture of sorbic acid, that is also found in tobacco smoke, gasoline and diesel engine exhausts, and smoke from wood burning. Airborne exposure to this chemical can cause eyes, nose, throat, and lung irritation.
