Marburgvirus

**Semantic type:** Virus

**Definition:** A genus of filamentous, enveloped viruses with glycoprotein surface spikes, in the family Filoviridae. The genome is composed of a linear single-strand of negative sense RNA. The primary product of the fourth gene is the GP1,2 glycoprotein, which does not require cotranscriptional editing. Marburgviruses humans and primates and cause hemorrhagic fevers in humans.
