**Definition:** Human MSR1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 8p22 and is approximately 450 kb in length. This allele, which encodes macrophage scavenger receptor types I and II protein, is involved in the modulation of cholesterol and lipoprotein transport. Mutation of the gene is associated with Barrett esophagus and prostate cancer.
