**Definition:** Human CHN2 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 7p15.3 and is approximately 392 kb in length. This allele, which encodes beta-chimaerin protein, plays a role in both the proliferation and migration of smooth muscle cells. Decreased expression of this gene is associated with high-grade gliomas and breast tumors, and increased expression of this gene is associated with lymphomas. Mutations in this gene have been associated with schizophrenia in men.
