2-Hydroxyestrogen

**Definition:** Any metabolite formed during the catabolism of estrogens by the liver through the hydroxylation of the carbon at position 2 by various cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes, including CYP3A4, 1A1 and 1A2. The 2-hydroxyestrogens have minimal estrogenic activity compared to the parent compounds.
