Megamonas funiformis

**Definition:** A species of anaerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Firmicutes. This bacteria is non-motile, non-spore forming, filamentous, weakly hemolytic, indole positive, negative for oxidase and catalase, hydrolyzes esculin and gelatin, and does not reduce nitrate. M. funiformis has been isolated from human feces and is a normal part of the human intestinal flora.
