**Definition:** A cell line established at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1976 from the pleural effusion of a 31 year old female patient with history of breast cancer. Gene expression analysis of the MDA-MB-435 cell line has revealed that the pattern of gene expression resembles that of melanoma cell lines. Further investigation has revealed that breast-specific genes were not expressed and melanocytic-specific genes were expressed in this cell line.
