**Definition:** An adriamycin-resistant cell line established by Batist, et al., in 1986, intended to be derived from the breast cancer cell line MCF-7. Recent single nucleotide polymorphism array analysis confirmed that the NCI/ADR-RES cell line is not derived from the MCF-7 cell line, but from the ovarian cancer cell line OVCAR-8.
