Fonsecaea

**Definition:** A genus of soil fungi in the family Herpotrichiellaceae characterized by indistinct melanised conidiophores with blunt, scattered denticles bearing conidia singly or in short chains that eventually become branched. Both species in this genus can cause chromoblastomycosis following skin damage.
