This allele, which encodes dynactin subunit 1 protein, plays a role in the regulation of dynein-dependent transport. Mutation of the gene is associated with Perry syndrome, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and distal hereditary motor neuronopathy type VIIB (HMN7B).
