Schistosoma haematobium
**Semantic type:** Animal
**Definition:** A species of flatworms in the family Schistosomatidae with a strong oral sucker and a smaller posterior ventral sucker. Adult males are around 10 mm and females are 15 mm in length. The life cycle of S. haematobium involves snails as the intermediate host and humans as the definitive host. Within the body infestation is usual seen in the venous plexus of bladder, but it can also be found in the rectal venules.
