Iodine I 131 SGMIB-Anti-HER2 CAM-H2
**Semantic type:** Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A radioconjugate composed of a camelid single domain antibody (sdAb) CAM-H2 (VHH1; sdAb 2Rs 15d) directed against human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2, EGFR2, ERBB2) that is covalently linked via N-succinimidyl 4-guanidinomethyl-3-iodobenzoate (SGMIB) to the radionuclide iodine I 131, with radioimaging and antineoplastic activities. Upon administration of iodine I 131 SGMIB-anti-HER2 CAM-H2, the anti-HER2 antibody moiety targets and binds to HER2-expressing cells. This facilitates both the detection of HER2-expressing tumor cells and the targeted destruction of HER2-positive tumors. HER2, a tyrosine kinase is overexpressed on the cell surfaces of various tumor cell types. CAM-H2 is composed of small (15 kDa), heavy chain-only anti-HER2 antibody fragments that are able to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and are thus potentially useful in the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) metastases.
