Cavernous Sinus

**Semantic type:** Body Space or Junction

**Definition:** One of a pair of dural venous sinuses located on either side of the pituitary fossa and lateral to the sella turcica. It receives blood from the superior and inferior ophthalmic veins, and drains via the superior and inferior petrosal sinuses, as well as into the emissary vein.
