Tocopherylquinone
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance|Vitamin
**Definition:** An oxidized form of alpha-tocopherol with potent anticoagulant activity. Although the mechanism of action has not been fully elucidated, dietary supplementation with tocopherylquinone may lead to the inhibition of the vitamin K-dependent gamma-carboxylase (gamma-glutamyl carboxylase). This prevents the carboxylation of glutamyl residues in coagulation factor proteins and inhibits platelet aggregation and clotting.
