Cardiac Atrium

**Definition:** The paired upper chambers of the heart. The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the pulmonary vein and pumps blood into the left ventricle. The right atrium receives venous deoxygenated blood from the entire body via the superior and inferior vena cavae and pumps blood into the right ventricle.
