Isofuran
**Semantic type:** Organic Chemical
**Definition:** A group of eicosanoids that contain a substituted tetrahydrofuran ring formed by free radical mediated peroxidation of arachidonic acid. Isofuran production is favored over isoprostane production when elevated levels of oxygen are present. As isofurans are stable byproducts of lipid peroxidation, they can be used as biomarkers for oxidative stress.
