**Definition:** The part of the central nervous system that contains the organs and connections that allow for the processing of visual images as well as some non-image forming visual functions, including circadian photoentrainment. Structures comprising the visual system include the eye, the optic nerve, the optic chiasma, the optic tract, the lateral geniculate nucleus, the optic radiations, the visual cortex, and the visual association cortex.
