**Definition:** A biologically inactive vitamin D derivative that is produced by the hydroxylation of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D2 presumably by 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 24-hydroxylase (CYP24A1). 1,24,25-trihydroxyergocalciferol may be a marker for the metabolism of dietary ergocalciferol.
