**Definition:** Diabetes mellitus caused by activating mutation(s) in the KCNJ11 gene, encoding the inwardly rectifying Kir6.2 subunit of the pancreatic beta cell adenosine triphosphate-sensitive potassium channel. Note: Inactivating mutation(s) in the KCNJ11 gene result in hyperinsulinism.
