Irreversible Electroporation

**Definition:** A non-thermal ablation modality that is used in the treatment of locally advanced soft tissue tumors. This technique uses ultra-short, but strong, electrical fields to create permanent, lethal nanopores in cell membranes, disrupting cellular homeostasis and causing cell death. The technique may be performed intraoperatively, laparoscopically, or percutaneously.
