B-DNA

**Semantic type:** Nucleic Acid, Nucleoside, or Nucleotide

**Definition:** A duplex of DNA is formed by two complementary chains that are arranged in an anti-parallel manner. B-DNA is about 20 Angstrom in diameter and a right-handed double helix with a wide major groove easily accessible to proteins and narrow minor groove. B-DNA is the most common DNA conformation in vivo and the favored conformation at high water concentrations. Base pairs are nearly perpendicular to the helix axis and sugar pucker is C2'-endo.
