C3H1 Zinc Finger

**Semantic type:** Amino Acid Sequence

**Definition:** Zinc finger domains are thought to be involved in DNA-binding. Different types exist depending on the cysteine residue positions. C-X8-C-X5-C-X3-H type zinc finger proteins often function in cell cycle or growth regulation, e.g. human TIS11B (butyrate response factor 1) and mouse TTP nuclear protein. The splicing factor U2AF 35-kD subunit, which mediates protein-protein and protein-RNA interactions required for 3-prime splice site selection, also contains this domain. Different CCCH zinc finger proteins interact with the 3-prime UTR of various mRNA. This type of zinc finger is often present in two copies. (NCI)

**Synonyms:** - Zinc Finger C-X8-C-X5-C-X3-H Type
