Galanin

**Definition:** Galanin (30 aa, ~3 kDa) is encoded by the human GAL gene. This protein is involved in nociception, secretion of cortisol, growth hormone and insulin, hair follicle development and contraction of smooth muscle cells of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts.
