Licogliflozin
**Semantic type:** Organic Chemical|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** An inhibitor of the sodium-dependent glucose co-transporter (sodium-glucose transporter; sodium-glucose transport protein; sodium-glucose linked transporter; SGLT) family members 1 and 2 (SGLT1/2) with antihyperglycemic activity. By binding to and blocking SGLT1/2, licogliflozin suppresses the reabsorption of glucose in the proximal tubule within the kidneys and enhances urinary excretion of glucose. This normalizes blood glucose levels. SGLT1/2, parts of a transport system expressed in the proximal renal tubules, mediate the majority of renal glucose reabsorption from tubular fluid.
**Synonyms:** - D-Glucitol, 1,5-Anhydro-1-C-(3-((2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-6-yl)methyl)-4-ethylphenyl)-, (1S)- - LICOGLIFLOZIN - LIK 066 - LIK-066 - LIK066
