East Indian Sandalwood Oil Cream

**Definition:** A cream containing an essential oil derived from the East Indian sandalwood tree (Santalum album), containing alpha- and beta-santalols, with potential anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and immunomodulating activities. Upon topical application of the East Indian sandalwood oil (EISO) cream to an affected area of skin, the active ingredients in the cream may suppress various enzymes, such as cyclooxygenase (COX) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) phosphodiesterases (PDEs), prevent the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines and directly cause apoptosis in susceptible cell types, including certain cancer cells and virally-infected cells.
