**Definition:** A technique for measuring anatomical densities in which a single X-ray beam, whose low and high energy is separated, is aimed at the bone or tissue of interest and x-ray absorption is assessed. This technique has multiple applications including the measurement of bone mineral density and bone mineral content and more novel applications such as breast density.
