**Definition:** Human PTP4A3 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 8q24.3 and is approximately 40 kb in length. This allele, which encodes protein tyrosine phosphatase type IVA 3 protein, is involved in protein phosphatase activity, progression of the cell cycle and promotion of cell proliferation and cell motility. Aberrant expression of the gene is associated with tumor metastasis.
