Risankizumab

**Semantic type:** Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein|Immunologic Factor|Pharmacologic Substance

**Definition:** A humanized immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) monoclonal antibody targeting the p19 subunit of human interleukin 23 (IL-23) cytokine, with anti-inflammatory activity. Upon administration, risankizumab targets and binds to the p19 subunit of human IL-23, inhibiting the interaction of IL-23 with the IL-23 receptor complex. This inhibits IL-23/IL-23 receptor-mediated signaling and inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. IL-23 plays an important role in the development, maintenance and activation of Th17 cells, which produce pro-inflammatory cytokines including IL-17A, IL-17F, and IL-22. It is upregulated in various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
