**Definition:** A post-translationally modified form of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E where either the threonine at residue 22 or the serine at residue 209 are phosphorylated. Phosphorylation of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E increases its binding to 7-methylguanosine-containing mRNA caps and may promote the translation of mRNAs involved in epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT), tumorigenesis and metastasis.
