Methionine-Restricted Diet

**Definition:** A diet which is limited in the amino acid methionine. Methionine depletion inhibits cell cycle progression and induces apoptosis in many transformed cells, but not normal cells. Dietary methionine restriction inhibits tumor growth in diverse cancer models and is in trial as part of clinical cancer treatments.
