Test of Word Reading Efficiency, Second Edition

**Definition:** A measure designed to provide professionals in schools and clinics with a reliable and valid measure of fluency and accuracy of print-based word-reading skills. It is a nationally normed measure of word reading accuracy and speed, comprised of two subtests: the Sight Word Efficiency (SWE) subtest, a measure of an individual's ability to pronounce printed words, and the Phonemic Decoding Efficiency (PDE) subtest, a measure of an individual's ability to pronounce phonemically regular nonwords.
