**Definition:** A family of dynamically expressed, non-structural, extracellular matrix (ECM)-associated proteins that are involved in a diverse set of cellular signaling pathways. Members of this family are characterized by having four conserved cysteine-rich domains, which includes an N-terminal insulin-like growth factor-binding domain (IGFBP), a von Willebrand factor type C domain (VWFC), a thrombospondin type 1 repeat (TSP type-1), and a C-terminal cysteine knot domain (CTCK).
