Interstitial Lung Disease

**Definition:** A category of lung diseases characterized by varying degrees of inflammation and fibrosis of the interstitial lung tissue. Causes include occupational lung exposures and drugs. In a minority of cases there is no clear cause and such cases are termed idiopathic interstitial pneumonia.
