Hemoporfin

**Definition:** A light-activated compound, with potential photosensitizing activity upon photodynamic therapy (PDT). Upon administration of hemoporfin and following photoactivation with an appropriate wavelength, hemoporfin generates highly reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as cytotoxic singlet oxygen species, and induces oxidative stress that results in the damage and death of cells.
