**Definition:** Inspection of the region of the anterior surface of the chest and epigastrium reveals a normally shaped thorax, free from any infection, other form of disease or malformation or asymmetry; and a point of maximal impulse (apical impulse) that is a single outward impulse, usually located inside the mid clavicular point at the fifth intercostal space.
