Cariprazine Hydrochloride
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** The hydrochloride salt form of cariprazine, an orally bioavailable partial agonist of the dopamine D2 and D3 receptors, a partial agonist of the serotonin 1A (5-HT1A) receptor, and an antagonist of the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) and 2B (5-HT2B) receptors, with antipsychotic activity. Although its exact mechanism of action in schizophrenia is unknown, it has been proposed that cariprazine's antipsychotic activity is mediated through a combination of agonist and antagonist activities at various dopamine and serotonin receptors, particularly through its partial agonist activity at central dopamine D2 and 5-HT1A receptors, and its antagonist activity at 5-HT2A receptor.
**Synonyms:** - CARIPRAZINE HYDROCHLORIDE - RGH-188 Hydrochloride - Vraylar - Vraylar
