Metreleptin

**Definition:** A recombinant human leptin analog composed of human leptin with the addition of a methionine residue at its amino terminus, that may be used for the treatment of leptin deficiency. Upon administration, metreleptin binds to and activates the human leptin receptor (ObR). This activates leptin/ObR-mediated signaling pathways. Leptin, a hormone predominantly secreted by adipose tissue, plays an important role in maintaining energy homeostasis.
